Honoring our history as the oldest non-profit professional theater in Los Angeles, Company of Angels reflects and responds to the richness, diversity and complexity that is our city. Our Company of diverse theater artists fosters mutual learning partnerships with the residents of Los Angeles through artistic development opportunities, community building enterprises, and life experiences. Our partnerships develop emerging artists, create new work and re-envision theater to entertain new audiences and serve the City of Angels. - Coa Mission Statement
Company of Angels is dedicated to creating theater that is deeply connected to its community. Theater in Los Angeles is largely disconnected from the vast majority of residents. This is especially lamentable given the ability of theater to create a shared experience, illuminate societal struggles, and provide a vehicle to express and discuss ideas. We aim to share and help give voice to the many stories that exist in our community.
We seek an ongoing engagement with our community that will lead to enhanced understanding and learning between and among residents of Los Angeles. With a collective of Actors, Directors, Playwrights, Designers, and Administrators, our company forges ongoing and meaningful relationships with the residents of Los Angeles. We seek to make our theater function as a town hall where we share ideas and celebrate our differences and similarities.
Members pay dues funding productions in which we alternate duties as producer, actor, designer, technician, and director. Always dedicated to the exploration of a diversity of perspectives, the Company is uniquely multi-cultural with members reflecting the several different ethnic groups that make up the City of Los Angeles including African-American, Asian, Caucasian, Latino, Middle Eastern and South Asian.
